Personally, I love print. I love digital design too, and just as well really considering the business that we are in, but to me there is nothing better than a crisp, quality brochure or magazine, beautifully designed and printed, arriving at our office ready for that first view.
But how many of us have sent projects off to print, to find the quality of the print or the stock purely second rate? From what I hear, a lot.
It is almost like a lottery isn’t it. You get something designed, or you design it yourself, you send it off, and basically hope for the best.
Considering the cost of print, this surprises me, as it is a totally unnecessary risk.
Get Perfect Print Every Time!
Get a professional to prepare it for press for you, or if you are doing it yourself, follow these 5 tips:
1. Make sure all photos or images are in CMYK (not RGB), or else they won’t print in the correct colours.
Particularly important in catalogues.
2. Ensure all photos or images are high res.
Seriously. They will pixelate otherwise, and just look shoddy.
3. Turn fonts into curves.
This means they won’t change when the file is processed by the printer.
4. Remember bleeds and trim marks to get the best design.
Proper printer marks helps use the space on the page to it’s optimum.
5. And from a design perspective, less is more.
Most important.
